Crocheted hat!
Abbreviations: sc=single crochet (this is the one you know
how to do)
ch=chain stitch (like the very first row)
Pattern
To begin ch 4
and then make a slip knot in the farthest stitch from your hook (a slip knot
is: insert the hook into the stitch [the “V”], wrap the yarn around the hook,
and pull the yarn through everything on the hook). Alternatively, create a magic circle.
Round 1: 6sc in
center of ring
Round 2: 2sc in
each sc around (put your stitch marker in the first stitch and move it up with
each successive round)
Round 3: [sc in
next sc, 2sc in next sc] around. (This means in the first stitch, make 1 sc,
and then in the next stitch, make 2. Repeat
around the circle.)
Round 4: [sc in
next 2 sc, 2sc in next sc] around. (This means in the first 2 stitches, make 1
sc each, and then in the next stitch make 2.
Repeat around the circle.)
Round 5: [sc in
next 3 sc, 2sc in next sc] around.
Round 6: [sc in
next 4 sc, 2sc in next sc] around.
Round 7: [sc in
next 5 sc, 2sc in next sc] around.
Continue
increasing in this pattern until the hat measures 6” across or desired width
(it’ll naturally increase a little more, so overestimate the width a little).
Next round: [sc
in each sc] around.
Continue this
until hat measures approx. 7 inches (less if you’re making a smaller hat; use
your judgment) and then fasten off. If
you want your hat to have a little lip (turn up a little bit) then make it
longer.
